Gabrielle J. Poteet (b. 1999, Chattanooga, TN) grew up in the woods of Tennessee where she first established a relationship with the creatures of nature. She highly values the physicality of creating and believes that one can explore their connection to the past and its’ influence on the present with the cathartic manipulation of materials on a surface. Therefore, the act of creating records a present version of the creator to be reviewed at a future time.
Poteet’s art practice is a way of observing, recording, and setting reminders of how small she is and how magnificent the world is.
Poteet graduated from the University of Georgia in 2022 with a BFA in Drawing and Painting from the Lamar Dodd School of Art. She studied under mentor Joseph E. Norman and learned the art of mural painting. After graduating, Poteet spent time establishing a studio in Spain before moving to New York to manage various art galleries. While in New York she practiced pigeon conservation, painted with one of the most prestigious mural companies in the United States, and exhibited her work nationally. In January 2026, after three years in New York, Poteet left the United States and now resides on a small ecological farm in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
